AYSA Baseball Families,

I want to thank you for your understanding and patience as we attempt to navigate these unprecedented times. Our world has been turned upside down with the impact of COVID-19 and we continue to work with league organizers and other community youth sports organizations to determine the best path forward. We want our lives to start returning to “normal”, including the opportunity for our kids to get out and play baseball in a safe environment.

I am sure you have all seen or heard about the guidelines provided by Governor Abbott related to youth sports. We have been able to get teams out practicing on our fields and, if the plan remains the same, will be able to enjoy watching our kids play in baseball games in the near future. Please remember that the guidelines for social distancing remain in place and that as spectators you should follow social distancing guidelines whenever possible.

HVABSA, the league our recreational teams participate in, is planning to hold the season beginning mid-June. The activities associated with the Select League our select teams typically participate in (TEBA), have unfortunately been cancelled for the summer. There should be opportunities for all teams to participate in tournaments this summer (scheduled to start mid-June) if your team determines that is something you want to explore. Tournament identification, selection, participation, and cost is the individual responsibility of the team.

In both situations, I want you to know that the AYSA Board respects any decision individual families have made in relation to having your athlete participating in sports this summer. It is a personal decision and a discussion each family should have to determine your level of comfort.

AYSA will provide refunds for those participants who have elected not to play or whose teams have elected not to play. The refund amount will be based on the specific charges for your situation (e.g., recreational baseball vs. select) with a deduction to cover the operating costs AYSA has already incurred (i.e., uniforms). For those players who have yet to receive your uniforms, we will make sure we get those distributed as soon as possible.

To receive a refund, please send an email to [email protected] with a copy to [email protected]. We will then work with you on the refund process. If your family would like to donate your registration fee to AYSA, please let us know that as well. We will use any donated funds to help with things like field maintenance, equipment, etc.

To help give back to our Argyle community during this challenging time, AYSA is also planning to hold clinics during the summer to give our players the opportunity to continue skill development. These clinics will be free to those who registered for the 2020 spring season. We will be sending out information on those clinics in the early to mid-June timeframe.

We thank you for your support and continued interest in participating in and helping us develop our young athletes in Argyle. We will get through this together – WE ARE ARGYLE!

Age-based Division Rule

AYSA follows the USSSA guidelines to determine each player's division.   Players are placed in a division based on their age as of May 1.

For example, a player who turns 9 prior to May 1, 2016 must play in the 9U division or may elect to "play up" one year in the 10U division for the 2016 season.

If you have any questions about this rule, please contact the baseball commissioner.

Questions or concerns can be addressed to [email protected]

The AYSA baseball program continues to grow with our community. We have more kids signing up each year. We have some great volunteer coaches whose goal is to help every kid learn the game of baseball, experience it, and get a chance to participate regardless of skill level.

Coaches are selected and approved by the AYSA board following an in-person interview process.  Coaches must complete a successful background review prior to each season.

Teams are age-specific, not grade-specific. There are no try-outs for recreational leagues, all registered players will make a team.  This year you may request your coach. If your coach moves up and age division, the coach can keep the same team from the year before. If your child is new to Argyle, we will have a skills evaluation. This will allow us to fill roster spots with a range of player skills and help evenly match up teams.
